Next Project. Próximo Proyecto.

Hace un tiempo estuve con mi colega Pilar. Una gran partner, con la que ya hemos trabajado antes en (The Doodles y Helena's Story). Esta vez, Pilar me propuso ilustrar una obra de teatro de Federico García Lorca. Aparentemente hay poco de Lorca traducido al inglés, y Pilar está en esta cruzada de hacer conocer a uno de los autores españoles que más ha inspirado nuestra lengua. Lorca es conocido sobre todo por sus obras cumbres como Bodas de Sangre, de la cual se han hecho un par de películas. (Para mí, la mejor es la de Carlos Saura, lejos).​

Pero Lorca ha sido también una figura emblemática. Asesinado por la el fascismo durante la Guerra Civil Española, ha  encarnado el valor, la valentía de decir aquello que sentimos es nuestra verdad. Mucho más sobre Lorca en el blog de Pilar: http://ilovegarcialorca.blogspot.be/​

Esta vez, nos hemos metido con una obra temprana de Lorca llamada en español El maleficio de la mariposa. Una obra totalmente interpretada por insectos. La analogía va más allá de lo evidente y aquí he empezado con algunos bocetos de los personajes. Hacia septiembre, si el tiempo me lo permite iré posteando más.​

Some time ago I was with my colleague Pilar in London in a wonderful breakfast that we had in Kensington. Pilar is a great partner, with whom we have worked before in (The Doodles and Helen's Story). This time, Pilar asked me to illustrate a play by Federico Garcia Lorca. Apparently there is some Lorca translated into English, and Pilar is on this crusade to make known to one of the Spanish authors that has inspired our language. Lorca is known for his masterpieces like Blood Wedding, which have done a couple of movies. (For me, the best is Carlos Saura, away).

This time, we've gotten an early work of Lorca  call "The Curse of the butterfly". A fully  work characterised by insects. The analogy goes beyond the obvious and here I started with some sketches of the characters. By September, if time allows me I will be posting more.

Cambiando de Web site. Moving my Web Site.

Estoy trabajando en mi nuevo sitio web ahora mismo. Estoy bastante excitada con el tema y está siendo una gran experiencia actualizar mis imágenes desde al año pasado. Me estoy mudando de Wix a Squarespace, que es mucho más lindo, más fácil y su servicio técnico es de primera para tarados en internet como yo. Estuve trabajando estos últimos días y finalmente hoy tuve la sorpresa de que mi nuevo site ya tiene vida.

Un comienzo fresquito se une a otro. Después de pensarlo mucho, decidí mover este Blog al mismo lugar que mi Website. Por qué? Porque hay más cosas y bellos templates para diseño e ilustraciones, más que en Blogger. De todas formas, Blogger ha sido un compañero de verdad por el último par de años. Primero desde mamadeultramar.blogspot.com y desde hace un año con Pencilory Blog.

Todavía trabajo en los settings de la página pero, si quieren pueden ya echar un vistazo, aquí está www.pencilory.com, mismo dominio, misma dirección aunque vestido diferente. Esper que les guste y disfruten viendo mi elección.
Después de todo esto, estoy intentando cargar todos los posts de este Blog en la nueva plataforma, y así redirigirlos a ustedes al nuevo blog. Espero hacerlo bien. Como dije soy una completa tarada de internet pero hasta ahora todo está funcionándome bien. (gracias al servicio técnico de Squarespace).

I am working on a new website right now. I'm pretty excited about it due to the beautiful experience has been so far update my images from the last year. I'm moving from Wix to Squarespace which is more helpful with dummies like me on codes or internet stuffs. I was working last days on the redirecting and finally today I had the surprise that my new website has come to live. 

A new fresh start links with another. After to think about it, I decided to move this Blog to the same place on my websites. Why? Because there is more facilities and nice template for a design or illustration blog, better than Blogger.

Anyway, Blogeer has been a real mate for the last couple of years. First with mamadeultramar.blogspot.com and since last year with Pencilory blog.

I'm still working on the settings of my site but, if want to take a look here is,  www.pencilory.com same domain, same adress, but different dress. I hope you like it and enjoy seeing the choice of images I did.

After all this, I'm traying to upload all the post in new platform, and the you will be redirect to the new blog. I hope doing it right. As I said, I'm an internet dummy but until now, everything is working well. (thanks to the help of constant service from Squarespace).

Restos del día... Remains of the day...

Ayer anunciaron los primeros seleccionados del concurso GTS (Global Talent Search). No, no salí entre los 50 (en total eran 1500!) Pero la vida continúa y ya sabía yo que no había chances para Pencilory. Sin embargo, he pensado mucho a raíz de eso. Muchos de mis colegas tampoco fueron seleccionados y varios otros sí! Hay ahí un buen grupo de gente que también hizo el curso con Lilla Rogers. 

La experiencia fue buena igual, siempre hay desilusión porque es humano tener esperanzas aunque sean controladas o no. Contenta por el logro de los 50 y triste por el no logro del resto. 

Yesterday, it was announced the first contest selected GTS (Global Talent Search). No, I did not make it on the final 50 (the total was 1, 500!). But life goes on and I knew there was no chance for Pencilory. However, I've thought a lot about that. Many of my colleagues were not selected either and many others do! There is among the 50 a good group of people who also did the course with Lilla Rogers.

The experience was equally good, there is always disappointment because is human to hope even though it is controlled or not. Happy for the achieving of the 50 and sad for the not achieving of the rest.

A veces ponemos más expectativas de las que merecen ciertas cosas. Y es difícil controlar luego la caída si los resultados no son los esperados. Yo pensé esto ayer, en relación a otras cosas no especialmente al concurso. No me cae en el mejor de los momentos personales (necesitaría un buen estímulo en este momento) pero aún así no me dejo caer. 

Hacer lo que te gusta simplemente como un hobby? ¿hacerlo como medio de vida? Creo que a muchas personas les pasa esto de dejar otras carreras o profesiones y meterse de lleno en "otra cosa", y la verdad que lo único que paga es el entusiasmo personal. Afuera, siempre hay mucho silencio y la gente está tan ocupada en sus propios problemas que poco ven los de los demás.

Sometimes we have more expectations than  certain things deserve it. And it is difficult to control them after the fall if the results are not as expected. I thought this yesterday, in relation to other things not just because the contest. It is true that it don't come on the better times now  (I'd need a good stimulus at this point) but still did not let me down.

Make what you like just as a hobby? Do it for a living? I think many people  stop his/her careers or proffesional activities and dive into "something else", and the truth is that all the payback is the personal enthusiasm. Outside, there is almost always silence because  people are so busy in their own little problems that take care about others "take too much time". 

Espero que Pencilory crezca un poco más. Todo, realmente, ha sido muy difícil hasta ahora. Y lo peor es la falta de ventas o de contactos. Sumado a la experiencia de ser uno en un millón (éramos menos pero la sensación es la misma) en el último curso del que tanto he hablado, todo ayuda a sentirnos un fracaso total y completo.

Pero bueno, igual, es mejor seguir dibujando. 

Esta es una iniciativa de mis compañeras de curso con L. Rogers, un alfabeto infantil. Yo empecé esta semana, y decidí hacerlo en español porque al fin y al cabo es mi lengua madre. A ver qué sale, iré posteando las otras letras de a poco. 

I hope Pencilory could grow a bit more. Everything, really, has been very difficult so far. The worst thing is the lack of sales or contacts from potential clients. Adding to the experience of being one in a million (there were less but the feeling is the same) in the last e-course about which I have spoken so much, it all helps to feel complete and total failure. 

Well,it is better keep drawing.

The drawing up above is an initiative of my classmates with L. Rogers, an alphabet for children. I started this week, and decided to do it in Spanish because after all it is my mother tongue. To see how it continues, I will be posting the other letters slowly.

Mi trabajo para el Global Talent Search y otros... My work for the Global Talent Search and other things...

Finalmente entregué la tapa de cuaderno que era la primera fase de este concurso, organizado por la Agencia de  Lilla Rogers  Studio. El Global Talent Search ha sido un concurso masivo en participación y diverso en el origen de sus participantes. Muchos hemos también hecho la Parte A del curso con Lila Rogers y otros tantos no.
La idea de una tapa para cuaderno era "Playground" área de juegos, y me inspiró bastante... Aquí arriba lo que finalmente mandé como final. Pero antes hice varias pruebas y varios más niños que no conseguí meter armoniosamente así que quedaron para otros dibujos u otros proyectos.


Finally I submitted the Journal cover as the first stage of this competition, organized by the Agency Lila Rogers Studio. The Global Talent Search contest has been a massive and diverse participation in the origin of its participants. Many, like me, have also made ​​the Part A of the course with Lila Rogers and many others do not.

Una duda grande fue el fondo. Demoré 2 días sólo para ponerme de acuerdo... Otra fue la idea de hacer un mock up, es decir un simulacro de cuaderno pero la verdad es que no sé si me salen muy bien, y dudé. Este fue un intento de hacerlo con un borde amarillo... Bueh, al final hice algo intermedio si se fijan en el borde es un diseño de rayuelas...

A big question was the background. It took me two days just to get it ... Another was the idea of ​​a mock up, ie a simulated journal cover but really do not know if I do very well, and I hesitated. Y luego varios quedaron fuera. Estos por ejemplo. Las hamacas cambiaron de fondo y este otro directamente no figura. 

Como tampoco el arenero, que me gustaba mucho pero en la totalidad de la imagen no se lucía para nada... una pena, quedará para otro destino. 

And then, several drawings were left out. These last ones for example. Hammocks background changed and the other one does not figure.

Neither the sandbox, though I really liked but the whole image did not fit at all but it will remain for another destination.

Intenté trabajar con una estética algo retro, sin embargo no sé si lo he conseguido. Tal vez al menos, encontré mi estilo un poco más definido.

I tried to work with a somewhat retro style, however I do not know if I have succeeded. Maybe at least I found my style a bit more defined.

Esta es la firma que puse. Y me está gustando mucho... creo que voy a sumarla a mi firma original de casitas.

Y hablando de casitas, estoy super encantada con mi fondo de casitas!! 

Y creo que voy a empezar ahora por hacer más de estas al estilo serie. Veremos cómo evolucionan.

Por ahora, Pencilory no se va de vacaciones pero tenemos tanto y tantas cosas por hacer para preparar la vuelta, (y tanto también por hacer en mi vida personal) que es probable que estemos un poco desaparecidos. Saludos a todos. 

For now, Pencilory is not going on holiday but we have so much and so many things to do and to prepare for return, (and therefore also to do in my personal life) that we are probably a bit missing. Greetings to all and thanks as always by passing by!! 

5 semanas de e-curso con Lilla Rogers. 5 weeks of e-course with Lilla Rogers.

Quien dijo "... and the livin' is easy" ? El verano se me está pasando rápido trabajando... 

Pero es un trabajo agradable, poniendo un poco en marcha la "rentrée" porque me imagino que todo lo que estoy haciendo verá más la luz hacia septiembre. En principio ¡terminó el curso con Lilla Rogers!. No es que festeje el fin sino que estaba ya un poco agotada y abrumada de tanta información. Aún reflexiono sobre el curso y todo lo que he aprendido, y me pregunto si, como dice ella, se verá eso en nuestro crecimiento. Yo creo que aprendí cosas técnicas un montón. Aprendí a manejar mucho mejor el Photoshop!! Que para un dibujante tradicional como "eu" no es poca cosa. Pero aún me falta, mucho.

Sin embargo, y a pesar de no haber recibido muchos o casi ningún comentarios de mis trabajos en el curso, estoy contenta con ellos. Me costaron su tiempo y dedicación y supongo que eso sumará, como todo.

Aquí lo último que hice, un ensayo para un sobre para vanity o lo que fuera. Yo agregué además al modelo otros dos, un cuaderno de viajes y una pequeña cartuchera para lápices.

Who said "... and the livin 'is easy"? Summer is going fast while I work ...

But it is a nice job putting some up the "rentrée" because, I guess, all I'm doing now will be more lighten by September. First, the course with Lilla Rogers ended!. Not that I celebrate the end but I was already a bit exhausted and overwhelmed with so much information. I need to reflect on the course and everything I've learned, and I wonder if, as she says, that will be visible in our growth. I think I learned a lot of technical things. For example I learned to better manage the Photoshop! That, for a traditional artist as "moi" is no small thing. But I still have, a lot to improve.

Despite not having received many comments during the course about my work, I'm happy with it. They cost me time and dedication and I guess that will add, like everything else.

Here the last thing I did, a rehearsal for a pouch (vanity or whatever). I also added to the model other two, a notebook and a small travel pouch for pencils. (I learned also to make a mock up! Yay!).

¿Y ahora qué? 

Pues ahora sigo. El Globar Search Talent ha comenzado en su primera ronda y yo participo como ven aquí al costado donde pueden hacer click y ver de qué se trata. No tengo aspiraciones de nada, porque no sólo sé sino que además imagino (mucho, imaginar y saber...) que hay muchos "pros" compitiendo y eso nos deja afuera a los más nuevitos. De todas formas, es una tremenda oportunidad para entretenarme. Estoy muy cansada hoy pero contenta porque lo que tengo que hacer me plantea varios problemas que si no hubiera hecho el curso ni me hubiera planteado. Ajá! Un punto más que aprendí. Así que no sé si eso me bloqueará un poco o me hará ir en otra dirección. El tema es "Playground" y es todo lo que podemos revelar. Entregamos el 22 y allí ya podré exponer mi parte. Et voilà. 

So now what? 

Well now , I keep on track. Global Talent Search started in his first round and I participated as you can see here on the side where you can click and see what it is. I have no aspirations at all, because I not only know, but also imagine (too much, to imagine and to know ...) that there are many "pros" competing and that leaves out the most of newbies like me. Anyway, it is a tremendous opportunity for training. I am very tired today but happy because what I have to do is to resolve now a couple of challenges in the pursuit of theme,that  I have been not capable to do if I were not being at the course. Aha! One more point I learned. So I do not know if that will block me a bit or I will go in another direction. The theme is "Playground" and is all we can reveal. We submit the next 22th and there I'll be able to expose mine. Et voilà.

El trabajo consistía en primero dibujar alguna de mis colecciones. Yo elegí mis muñequitos de viajes varios. Unas muñecas de Bangladesh, un de Turquía, unos de Pamplona, unos Kokeshis, y otros de Alemania.  El fondo consiste en sellos de pasaporte (de mi propio pasaporte) y luego cosas y cositas como valijas. También agregué algunos íconos turísticos que me hizo gracia sumar como estos. Al principio jugué con hacer imágenes espejo (que parece es la tendencia ahora).

The last and fourth assignement was to draw some of my collections. I chose my various travel dolls. Some dolls of Bangladesh, one from Turkey, one of Pamplona, ​​a Kokeshis, other from Germany, my Zulu doll, etc. The background consists of passport stamps (from my own passport! Yay!) and then bobs and bobs like suitcases and planes. I also added some tourist icons. At first I played with mirror images (which seems is the trend now). But finally I just messed up all the dolls.

Que pasó en 5 semanas?

Pasaron muchas cosas, pero sobre todo, que dibujé tantas horas como hacía unos cuantos, cuantos años... (recordé mis desvelos haciendo ejercicios de animación). este es el primer trabajo que hice para el curso MATS de Lilla Rogers. Es un patrón para telas (bold fabric).

What happened in five weeks?

Many things, but above all, I drew many hours as it was a few, few years I did not do ... (I remembered my sleepless nights doing my animation characters, long time ago). This is the first assignement that I did for the course MATS of Lilla Rogers. It is a fabric pattern (bold fabric).

En los reviews no tuvieron éxito. Pero a mí me gustan mucho. Estoy pensando sacar una línea de suculentas para la tienda de ETSY basada en estos diseños. (Stay tuned!) 

In the reviews were not successful. But I like them a lot. I'm thinking of create  a succulent line for my ETSY shop, based on these designs. (Stay tuned!)

En la semana 3 hicimos una tapa para un libro infantil "The Snail and the Rose Tree" de Hans Christian Andersen.

In week 3 we did a cover for a children's book "The Snail and the Rose Tree" by Hans Christian Andersen.

Este fue un primer caracol que hice...   This was a first snail that  I did ...

 Luego hice este y con este me quedé.  Then I did this one and stay with it.

Luego esta fue la primera tapa. Teníamos que hacer handlettering y esta no me convenció mucho aunque me parece que debería haber enviado esta al final (L. Rogers puso su Like en el Facebook y ya era tarde, había mandado...

Then this was the first cover. We had to do handlettering and this one did not convince me too much, but I think I should have sent this at the end (L. Rogers put his "Like" on Facebook and it was late, I had sent another one...

Esta. La final que envié. This was the final I sent. 

La cuarta semana me tocó en Londres. Fue muy difícil trabajar. Me llevé materiales pero la mesa que teníamos para trabajar era de vidrio (me molestan mucho las mesas de vidrio, no comprendo por qué insisten con ellas...) Y además en un departamento chiquitito todos juntos fue muy difícil quedarme a trabajar por la noche. A pesar de todo decidí enviar mi trabajo igual. No, no me gusta, me parece espantoso. Pero puse onda, trabajé duro igual y me quedó cierto cariño.

The fourth week I was in London. It was very hard to do my work. I carried my materials with me but the table we had to work was on glass (it bothers me too much glass tables, I do not understand why they insist ...) And a tiny apartment was very difficult to stay and work at night. Nevertheless I decided to send my work anyway. No, I do not like it. But wave started, I worked hard and I have now like some affection for it.

They are papercuts from maps of London, the idea was to keep the name of the districts listed (but unfortunately they are not noticeable ... "BOLD!"  would say the teacher,  L. Rogers). and I worked with the colors of my zodiac as were yellow and orange for Virgo.

Progresos

Si hay un progreso la verdad creo que está en mi cabeza. Aprendí muchas cosas, y sé que debo mejorar en varios aspectos. Pero también sé que hay muchas cosas que no sólo no puedo hacer (no me salen) sino que no haría. Aún sigo pensando que hay algún mercado para mis dibujos y un grupo de gente a las que pueda gustarles. Es cuestión de seguir puliéndome. Ahí estamos.

Me siento muy contenta de haber invertido en este curso. Lo recomiendo mucho y me gustaría pdoer hacer la segunda parte en octubre PArt B, pero aún necesito ahorrar un poco de dinero para ver si llego a la inscripción. Crucemos los dedos que ETSY funcione un poco...

Progress

If there is progress I think the truth is in my head. I learned many things, and I know I need to improve in several aspects. But I also know that there are many things that I can not only do (I can't) but I would not do. I still think that there is any market for my drawings and a group of people who might like. It is a question of improvement and there I am. 

I am very glad I invested in this course. I highly recommend it and I would do the second part, Part B, in October, but I still need to save a little money to see if I can sub mit my registration. Fingers crossed that ETSY run slightly ...

Summary of the month, London and collections. Resumen del mes, Londres y colecciones.

Cuanto tiempo! He tenido abandonado este medio un poco gracias a mi total dedicación al curso de Lilla Rogers MATS parte A. Ha sido un mes fabuloso, lleno de sorpresas, lleno de bajas y altas, de alegrías y bajones.

La semana pasada estuvimos en Londres en familia. No pude hacer los mismos recorridos que hubiera hecho sola pero igualmente descubrí una parte de Londres que me conquistó.

Estuvimos en South Kennsigton y creo que es uno de los barrios que más conocemos ahora. Caminamos por el Támesis, vimos varios highlights y entramos a dos de las Tates que hay ahora, la Britain y la Modern.

También conseguí ver la colección del Victoria & ALbert Museum, fabulosa. No pude entrar a la expo de David Bowie porque la entrada era prohibitiva, y la cola para entrar extensísima pero igual disfrutamos del museo.

Tengo fotos para mostrar y alguna que otra historia para contar.

Todo en breve, cuando termine con mis assignements para L. Rogers. En las vacaciones me tocó hacer el assignement sobre Wall Art. La verdad que fue muy difícil trabajar en otro lado que no sea mi mini estudio, y así quedó mi collage "london calling". Sé que no es de lo mejor pero le tengo cariño ahora.

Esta semana tenemos que dibujar colecciones. ¿quien no tiene colecciones de cosas en casa? Yo tengo varias... Y elegí primero tomar fotos a estas.

Y luego elegí dibujar mis muñecos de viajes y recuerdos. Vamos a ver cómo quedan. Más cosas esta semana!

How long! I had abandoned this medium due to my total dedication to the course of Lilla Rogers MATS Part A. It's been a great month, full of surprises, full of low and high, joys and lows.

Last week we were in London with family. I could not do the same routes that I would have done alone but also discovered a part of London that I loved.

We were settled in South Kennsigton and I think that is one of the most familiar neighborhoods now. We walked along the Thames, and we saw several highlights, two of the Tates, the Britain and the Modern.

I also saw the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, fabulous. I could not get to the exhibition of David Bowie because the price of the entrance was prohibitive, and the cue to get in very extensive but still enjoyed the museum.

I have pictures to show and some other stories to tell.

Everything soon, when I finish with my assignements for L. Rogers. In the holidays I had to do the assignement of Wall Art. Actually it was very difficult to work elsewhere than my mini studio, and this was my collage "london calling" (above). I know its not the best but I have affection now.

This week we have to draw collections. Who does not have collections of things at home? I have several ... And I chose first to take photos of these.

And then I chose to draw my travel dolls and souvenirs. Let's see how they look. More things this week!

London Calling !

Londres nos espera esta semana. Serán unos pocos días de vacaciones donde espero poder ver algunas cosas puntuales que siempre quiero ver y nunca tenemos suficiente tiempo.

Objetivos de visitas:

*El V&A Museum. Hace tiempo que quiero hacer una buena visita. Sé que es imposible recorrerlo todo, su colección es impresionantemente grande en decoración, textiles y objetos de diseño industrial. Pero me interesan sobre todo cosas del siglo XIX y XX. Como las telas de Vosey de las que soy absoluta fan.

Y también objetos de decoración japoneses. Vamos a ver qué puedo ver.

Además, hay ahora una exposición sobre David Bowie y sus influencias en el diseño. Muero por verla pero la entrada es excesivamente cara para nuestro presupuesto ahora y no sé si será esta vez.

*La Tate Modern gallery. Fui hace casi 15 años. La recorrí completamente pero desde ese entonces hasta ahora han cambiado mucho. Quiero volver a ver a Warhol, a Mondrian y al famoso cuadro collage de Matisse. 

*Museo de las marcas (Museum of Brands) me llama la atención un museo de objetos coleccionables de la vida cotidiana. Al parecer es el fruto de un consumista (e historiador). 

*Barrios que nunca puedo disfrutar, Notting Hill, Convent Garden y el últimamente el famoso East End (sería de acá la serie interminable Eastenders?).

*Charity shops, Thrift Shops y una casa que venda aún objetos de cocina enlozados (enamel) tan popular en Inglaterra desde las épocas de la Segunda Guerra. 

*Y además, debo continuar con mi curso con Lilla Rogers, on line! Y preparar mi assignement que esta vez supongo será más leve mi dedicación dada la situación. Pero allí estaremos.

London awaits us this week. They're will be few days of vacation where I hope to see some specific things that I always want to see and we never have enough time.

* The V & A Museum. I've been meaning to do a good visit. I know it's impossible to walk it all, his collection is impressively large in decoration, textiles and industrial design objects. But the things that interest me especially are nineteenth and twentieth century. As Vosey fabrics for which I am an absolute fan.

And Japanese decorative items. Let's see what I can see.

In addition, there is now an exhibition about David Bowie and his influence on design. I'm dying to see it but the entrance ticket is too expensive for our budget now and I do not know if it will be this time.

* The Tate Modern Gallery. I visited it almost 15 years ago. I saw it completely but since then much has changed so far. I want to see Warhol, Mondrian and Matisse's famous painting collage.

* Museum of Brands. That has fascinated me! The idea of a museum of memorabilia of everyday life. Apparently it's the result of a consumer (and historian too).

* I can never enjoy districts like, Notting Hill, Covent Garden and the lately famous East End (would be there that endless series "Eastenders" was inspired?).

* Charity shops, Thrift Shops and some shop where still sells enameled kitchen objects so popular in England since the days of the Second War.

* And, I must complete my course with Lilla Rogers, on line! And prepare my assignement that this time will be more mild , I guess, due to my vacation situation. But we'll be there. This week is "Wall decor". Let's see what I can do!

My third week of L Rogers e-course. Mi tercera semana del curso con L. Rogers.

Llegó la tercera semana, el tiempo pasa volando. Esta semana el assignement fue una portada para un libro infantil. Un ejercicio, como el título indica de H.C. Andersen. Me gustó hacerlo pero debo admitir que no tuve toda la fuerza y el entusiasmo que puse en los anteriores.

A lo largo de estas semanas he aprendido varias cosas, no sólo las que me enseñaron sino otras también que aprendí sola.

Voy a seguir en esta dinámica, armando un buen portfolio para ver que pasa.

Llegué a este caracol después de otros que hice, de los que rescato este otro también. El Rosal me costó bastante para dar con una cara que no fuera kitsch o ñoña. También me costó elegir la letra porque tenía que ser a mano. Hay una versión previa donde la letra me gustaba más pero al final me quedé con la más básica.

Bueno, me voy de vacaciones la semana próxima así que ahora tengo la cabeza en otra cosa!

Third week, time flies. This week the assignement was a cover for a children's book. An exercise, as the title indicates with H. C. Andersen. I liked it but I must admit I did not have all the force and enthusiasm that I put in earlier projects.

Throughout these weeks I have learned several things, not just taught but I also learned others.

I will continue in this dynamic, putting together a good portfolio to see what happens.

I came to this snail after others who did before, of which I rescued this one too. The rose tree was tough, trying not being kitsch or sappy. The handlettering also was difficult to choice. I made several examples (one goes below) and finally the first cover above is the one I chosen.

Well, I'm going on vacation next week so now I have the head in other area!

Segunda semana del e-course con L. Rogers y demás...

Pasó otra semana. Es increíble como pasa el tiempo cuando se dibuja más intensamente. Creo que uno de los puntos fuertes de este curso es el estímulo para trabajar en determinado ejercicio que tiene que ver con el tema de la semana. Eso, moviliza y motiva. Personalmente siento que estoy dibujando un poco mejor, y me gusta lo que está saliendo. Entre otras cosas aprendí, a usar mejor el Photoshop, es decir a sacarle el jugo pero a seguir trabajando a mano. NO dibujo en Photoshop y eso me pone contenta. No me gustan tanto los trabajos vectoriales y no aspiro a eso. En segundo lugar, tener deadlines ayuda a organizarse y a ir armando un tipo de Portfolio cosa que tengo a medias, armado de distintas experiencias, y creo que ahora podré ir armándolo con un estilo más personal. (otros dirían que mi portfoloio es una mierda de inexistente, pero bueno, ahí está).

Pero el lado flojo es, insisto, la falta de feed-back concreto. Sí, hay respuestas a las preguntas, hay cierta participación de la docente en FB pero luego todo el trabajo se pierde sin saber qué tan mal está, por ejemplo. Porque elegir entre 400 dibujos un puñado de 16 es un gran esfuerzo pero deberían haberse planteado esto de antemano y pensar que mucha gente podría querer después de pagar la suma que hemos pagado, un feed-back un "poquito" más cercano. Lo malo de los e-courses que están dando vueltas por ahí, me parece, es la falta de compromiso del docente on line. Y justamente eso es lo que hace a un docente, pero a pesar de que muchos de estos crean que están siendo buenos docentes, la falla es la falta de atención sobre los alumnos. He sido docente muchos años y esto lo sé muy bien. Si además, no te ven más que en un video, hay algo que falta y que deberían preveer y/o corregir para que el alumno no sienta que tira cosas en al aire y no se le escucha. 

Mi esposo tiene un curso on line, y veo como lee y analiza cada uno de los trabajos que le envían, sí son muchos menos y no cobra por esto ni la décima parte de lo que cobran otros. Pero tiene un compromiso.

En fin, que me digan que soy negativa o whatever pero la verdad es que ese punto es flojo y me rompe bastante las bolas. Tanto que he decidido no mandar más mis trabajos. Haré las tareas y las postearé y veré como sacar el jugo de las  revisiones de cada semana pero al menos sé que no paso ignorada sino que soy yo la que decide no participar. Et voilà. Arriba está mi segunda tarea. UN modelo de plato. Que aparentemente o por lo que deduzco (porque nadie te lo dice y tenés que entenderlo por códigos... tema para otro post) está mal porque hice suculentas en lugar de otra planta. Sí, se ve que entendí mal. (En el ejercicio previo decía suculentas y la otra planta y hasta había fotos de suculentas de las cuales he sacado uno de estos dibujos).

¿frustrada? Sí un poco, ¿decepcionada? Sí también. Y también un poco mal, porque es como si te dijeran mirá el mercado compra esto, y esto, que está GENIAL. Y nada más. Ergo, todo el resto (en el que hay trabajos realmente buenos, sin contar el mío obviamente) a tomar por culo. Yo personalmente siento que es ver la torta de la que nunca vas a comer, y te da cierta desesperanza si querés vivir de esto y laburar honestamente. En fin, un bajón. Seguiré trabajando porque la verdad es como sentirte que te faltan años luz para todo.  Acá los otros modelos de platos que hice y que no envié.

Primera semana del e-course MATS 1 con L. Rogers (sólo en español x hoy)

Y sí, pasó la primera semana. Tenía previsto dedicarle a este curso un par de horas diarias y terminé dedicándole días de trabajo enteros! Toda una sorpresa para mí. Cosas que rescato mucho, una gran docente! Y ¿como es dar clases on line o un e-course? Tenemos cada día un "post" en un sitio privado, desarrollamos temas por semana y cada día de esa semana un aspecto del tema. La primera semana fue sobre Bolt Fabric, es decir telas estampadas pero de aquellas que empezaron a salir hace pocos años, con dibujos alucinantes que dan ganas de comprarlas todas. El formato es más pequeño que el de las grandes telas de tapicería o vestimenta y pueden servir para muchas cosas.

Lo interesante es ver que el cielo es el límite para crear cosas coloridas divertidas y atractivas. Con temas diversos. Mi primer tarea es esta, una prueba para tela. La verdad que disfruté plenamente "jugando" a presentar un proyecto para un supuesto cliente. Y el final me gustó, me gusta el resultado y estoy contenta con él. Pero no se imaginan la cantidad de cosas tan, pero tan lindas que han hecho mis compañeros de curso! Tanto y tantos que terminé ya hoy un poco apagada, sintiendo todo el largo camino que me falta recorrer, y sí, un poco el bajón me agarró, (shhh! no puedo decir esto públicamente porque prometimos no tirar negatividad, pero yo más que negatividad siento un poco de desaliento, en fin, mañana será otro día).

De todas formas,  viéndolas en mi mundo y desde mi rinconcito-nivel, mis dibujos me gustan, y siento que el tiempo dedicado me hizo fortalecer en varios aspectos tanto de dibujo como del manejo de Photoshop (que tantos dolores de cabeza me procura pero hay que decirlo que tengo mucho más por aprender).
Así que estos frascos los hice un poco al final, para agregar a los "coordinates" que son los proyectos de telas que se hacen como para "conjuntar" (diría Ante Garmaz) con el estampado principal. Son dos, cucharas y frascos... Y la tarea ya la había posteado en Facebook, (y a los amigos, che, no saben la ilusión que me hizo ver que pusieron que les gusta, necesitaba ese empujoncito ayer y hoy, GRACIAS!).

Today: Life in Veggies and Fruits Hoy: Hay vida en los vegetales y en las frutas.

Desde hace unos días empecé a dibujar frutas y verduras otra vez. Lo hice hace algunos años en Madrid sólo por diversión (algunos de esos dibujos estuvieron en Pencilory.com pero se sientieron raros así que se fueron). Esta vez el motor fue mi curso de holandés. Hace 3 meses que empecé este curso y ya quiero terminar. Viviendo en Bruselas no se hace realmente necesario pero ya que hablo francés o inglés, hablar la lengua del lugar donde uno vive es para mí una muestra del respeto que se tiene. Aunque no la utilice mucho (además de ser absolutely beginner) creo que vale la pena el esfuerzo (es un idioma para mí un poco raro). Así que llegado el día de aprender frutas y verduras pensé en aportar con esto, unas verduras simpáticas, porque, como yo creo, hay vida en las verduras (y en las frutas como vemos aquí arriba). Sólo que hasta ahora no he podido adivinar que es lo que están conversando estos dos amigos.

Por hoy les muestro además a la familia de Endivias (una verdura originaria de Bélgica). Sigo preparando mi último post sobre Berlín pero me está costando sacarlo, será que no quiero terminar! Me gustó tanto estar allí... espero sea lo próximo que publique. Buen finde! 

Few days ago I began to draw fruits and vegetables again. I did a group of them a few years ago in Madrid just for fun (some of those drawings were the gallery of Pencilory.com but they felt rare and they left). This time the kickstart was my Dutch course. 3 months ago I started this course and I already want to finish it. I have the test next week. Living in Brussels is not really necessary but since I speak French or English, speak the language of the place where you live is for me a sign of respect you could have. Belgium has 3 official languages and Dutch is one of them (plus French and German). Although I do not need it urgently (besides, I am an absoluty begginer) I think it is worth the effort (it is a language for me a little weird). So, when the lesson to learn  was "fruits and vegetables" I thought to contribute to this, some sympathetic vegetables, because, as I believe, there is life in vegetables (and  in fruits as well). The only problem is that so far I could not guess what these two friends are talking about.

For today I introduce you also  to the Family Whiteleaf (an original product from Belgium) .

I'm still working on my last post about Berlin but I'm having it out, I don't want to end! I liked so much to be there ... hope that will be the next thing to post here. Good weekend!

Por qué un jarro con casitas de Bruselas? Why a mug with Brusselian houses?

Hace una semana les conté que estuve sacando nuevas fotos a mis objetos. Aquí hay algunas de ellas y de jarros nuevos también. 

¿por qué un jarro con dibujos de Bruselas?
El año pasado vinieron Tomás e Ivor a visitarnos a casa. Mi amigo Tomás que conocerán de Tomás en la cocina, cumple años un día antes que mi hijo, y pensamos festejarlo juntos aquí en Bruselas. Yo quería hacerle un regalo más que comprarle un regalo. Cuando siento que un amigo es muy cercano tengo ganas de hacerle un regalo especial, hecho con mis manos, y eso puede ser cualquier cosa que intento siempre que sea algo bonito. Algunos amigos sabrán de esto...
A Tomás (y a Ivor también, porque también lo quiero mucho como a Tomás) decidí pintarle un jarro de café. Y pensé, que nosotros viviendo ahora en Bruselas le haría ilusión llevarse un recuerdo de esas casitas que tan bonitas y pintorescas se ven. Y simplemente porque me encanta verlas...

Si han estado alguna vez en Bruselas habrán visto que por toda la ciudad se encuentran casas de no más de 3 o 4 pisos, con tejados y chimeneas, y fachadas absolutamente increíbles, muchas de estilo Art Nouveau, "EL" estilo por excelencia encontrado en Bélgica, y sobre todo en Bruselas.
Así que dibujé algunas casitas.
Luego surgió la idea de hacer más, y al mismo tiempo nacía mi tienda de Pencilory. 

Mis jarros han viajado hasta ahora a Inglaterra, a Irlanda, a Grecia y a España. Han quedado algunos también en la misma Bruselas, y seguro seguirán viajando, siempre y cuando sean del gusto de la gente.

Pencilory es mi marca, es nueva, es joven y un poco inexperta. Yo soy todo el personal aunque cuento con el apoyo de mi familia. Es mi nueva vida y mi nuevo sueño y necesita sobre todo, difusión. Así que si les parece, pueden difundir estas fotos en sus Facebook o hacernos conocer con otros amigos.

Why a mug with pictures of Brussels?

Last year Thomas and Ivor came home  to visit. us.  My friend Thomas (who you may  know from Tomas en la cocina) birthday a day before my son, and we decided to celebrate together here in Brussels, my little son made 2 years an him a bit more. I wanted to give him one gift not to  buy him a gift. When I feel very close tom some friends I always want to make a special gift, made with my hands, and that can be anything you attempt whenever something nice. Some friends know about this ...

For Tomas (and also Ivor, his mate) I decided to paint a coffee mug. And I thought, that now, that we we are living in Brussels it would be nice to remind those beautiful and picturesque houses. And just because I love watching them ...

If you have ever been to Brussels you have seen all over town houses with no more than 3 or 4 floors, roofs and chimneys, and facades absolutely incredibles, many in Art Nouveau style, "the" quintessential style found in Belgium, especially in Brussels.

So I drew some houses.

Then, it came up the idea to do more, while my shop Pencilory was born.

My mugs have traveled so far since that. To England, Ireland, Greece and Spain. Some also have been in the same Brussels and they will continue to travel, as far as people like them.

Pencilory is my brand, is young and a bit inexperienced, but I do hard work.  I am all the staff but I have the support of my family. It's my new life and my new dream and needs, especially, being shared. So if you like them, maybe you can disseminate these pictures in your Facebook (with credit to Pencilory, obvioussly)or intrduced us to other friends.
